Nowadays there are many different sizes of trampolines on the market that enable safe jumping for all age groups. One of the most frequent questions that are posed when people buy trampolines is what size to choose that will still enable the youngest members of the family to jump safely.
When buying a trampoline never forget that you should buy one of those models that are meant for families. Manufacturers usually adapt these models for families with small children so they are already designed in such a way as to allow the youngest members of the family to jump safely.
What do you need to pay attention to when choosing an appropriate Trampoline size?
So which size should you choose and what should you pay particular attention to when choosing the right size trampoline for your child?
1. Available space
Before buying the trampoline check the size of your garden or space where you intend to have the trampoline.
You must bear in mind the recommended safety distance from possible obstructions:
- 6 meters above the trampoline and
- 2 meters around it.
2. In-ground or free-standing trampoline
In-ground trampolines are considered to be more practical for younger children because of their ease of access, so manufacturers recommend them especially for families with small children and for children with special needs.

They are also suitable for all skeptical parents who are afraid that their child may fall from a free-standing trampoline despite its safety net.
3. Safety net
Regardless of their size, free-standing trampolines usually come with a safety net which ensures that the child can jump in complete safety. In-ground trampolines usually do not come with a safety net but they can be purchased separately any time later.
4. Jumping mats
The jumping mat is a crucial part of the trampoline and largely determines the trampoline’s bounce.
Some jumping mats have a stronger bounce and are therefore more suitable for experienced users and not the youngest children.
5. Trampoline stability
The most stable trampolines are the in-ground variety. Many users avoid them as they require an approximately 1-meter-deep hole to be dug. But even if you choose a free-standing trampoline you need not be afraid that it will topple over.

It is, however, important that the trampoline is correctly assembled and placed on a suitable surface. It is best to choose grass or earth and by no means concrete, tarmac, or some form of paving.
6. Trampoline shapes
For home use, it is best to choose a round trampoline because they are the safest. On round trampolines when the user jumps near the edge of the trampoline the jumping mat bounces them back towards the middle of the trampoline, whereas rectangular trampolines bounce the user forwards or to the side.
It is also good to know that the dimensions of the jumping surface of rectangular trampolines are slightly smaller than those of round ones.
7. User age
Although you are buying a trampoline primarily for your children, it is nevertheless worth considering if the trampoline will be used only by young children or also by teenagers and adults.
This will depend on the size and also the quality that you will choose.

To make the choice easier we present for you below the recommended trampoline sizes based on the child’s age. We are convinced that the choice will be easier with these recommendations.
1. Children up to 6 years
For the youngest children, either rectangular or round trampolines of a smaller size are recommended - regardless of whether you choose a free-standing or in-ground model.
If you would prefer a round one, choose a free-standing 8-10ft diameter trampoline, or a 10ft diameter trampoline if you prefer an inground model.
2. Children aged 7 years or over
For children over 7, both round and rectangular trampolines are recommended. Regardless of whether you choose a free-standing or in-ground model, choose a diameter of 12ft or 14ft.
3. Children aged 10 years or over
For bigger children, you can choose one of the rectangular models that are suitable for experienced users.
For a better jumping experience, we recommend in-ground trampolines with dimensions 14x10ft and in-ground round 14ft trampolines.
4. Children aged 14 years or over
If you would also like your teenagers to have some fun then we recommend free-standing and in-ground rectangular trampolines with dimensions 17x10ft.
This size also allows adults to jump in safely. Safe jumping for adults is also possible on a round 14ft trampoline.
It is necessary to bear in mind that choosing the largest trampoline is not always the best solution. This is a way of avoiding having more than one child jumping on the trampoline at any one time.
The smallest sizes are also not recommended (if you have enough room) so that children do not feel cramped. By all means, when choosing the right size, the child’s safety is always paramount.
